Cygwin Installation
If you are installing TimeStorm 3.2.x on your Windows machine, the TimeStorm installer checks to see if you have Cygwin installed on your system. If Cygwin is not installed, the TimeStorm installer stops and prompt you to install Cygwin before continuing your TimeStorm installation.
The following procedure is the simplest way to install Cygwin on your Windows system:
- Select the Repository button and click the Developer Tools tab.
- Click Cygwin.
- Click the Download this file button.
- Unzip the file you just downloaded.
- Start the installer by running install.exe. Use the Cygwin install.exe program to both install and upgrade Cygwin.
- Follow the on-screen instructions for the installer.
The installation will take between 30 and 60 minutes, depending on the speed of your computer.
Custom Installation
If you are a do-it-yourself kind of person, you can install Cygwin on your own by following the directions in the Setting Up Cygwin section of the online Cygwin User’s Guide. Installing Cygwin by this method is more complicated than using the TimeSys Cygwin version, and TimeSys is not able to offer support for this option. However, custom installation has the following advantages:
- You can limit the installation to only those packages you are sure you want or need. Be sure to read the Cygwin Host Package Requirements to make sure you install the basic packages required by TimeSys Tools.
- You can obtain the latest version of various Cygwin packages, which might be needed to include bug fixes, security updates, and so forth in existing Cygwin packages.
